Cross Country Opens Season In Houston

HOUSTON, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's cross country teams competed Friday evening at the Rice Relays, hosted by Rice University, in Houston. The format of the event consisted of a pair of runners teaming to run the course for a single time.
Jessica Partin and Emily Hufstedler teamed for the SFA women to finish fifth in the event with a time of 20:56.4 over the 5,400 meter course. Hollie Counts and Crystal Dempsey finished one spot back with a time of 21:41.9
In the men's event, Daniel Bledsoe and J.W. Potter teamed as the top finishers for the Lumberjacks, finishing fifth with a time of 35:56.2 over the 10,800 meter course. Brian Waugh and Chuck Strodtman finished ninth for the 'Jacks with a time of 38:03.0.
Both teams return to action on September 17, when they host the Joe Richardson Invitational Cross Country Meet at Piney Woods Country Club.
