Ladyjacks Claim First At Cross Country Meet, Men Second

The Ladyjack Cross Country team claimed the team title on the women's side at the Joe Richardson Invitational Cross Country Meet, held Monday at Piney Woods Country Club in Nacogodches. The Ladyjacks scored 43 points in claiming the team title, finished ahead of second place Nicholls State, who totaled 58 points, while third place Northwestern State compiled a total of 70 points.
Helen Kibby of McNeese State was the overall winner of the event with a time of 19:23, finishing just ahead of Cassie Jones of Nicholls State with a time of 19:59. Melanie Pate of SFA was third with a time of 19:59.
On the men,s side, McNeese State easily outdistanced the field in winning with a total of 32 points. The Lumberjacks finished second in the team standings with 32 points. UT-San Antonio was third with 81 points, Nicholls State was fourth with 90, and Northwestern State finished fifth with a total of 95 points.
Kris Gilmore was the individual champion with a time of 26:41, finishing just ahead of Henry Maruping of UTSA, with a time of 27:00. Bryan Williams of McNeese State was third (27:03) and Daniel Bledsoe of SFA was fourth (27:11). Amlesom Teklai of SFA rounded out the top five with a time of 27:26.
