ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Steven Barber hit a 3-pointer from the right wing with 1:03 left to give Texas-Arlington a come-from-behind 55-52 victory over Stephen F. Austin Thursday night.
Texas-Arlington went on an 8-0 run over the final 2:42 of the game. Derrick Obasohan cut Stephen F. Austin's lead to 52-50 with a 3-pointer with 2:29 remaining on the clock.
Barber stole an inbounds pass and hit a layup to tie the game at 52-52 before hitting the winning basket. Barber ended the night with 11 points, seven coming in the deciding minutes of the game.
SFA led most of the night, holding a 29-24 lead at the half. The Mavericks came out and erased the SFA lead in the opening minutes of the second half taking their first lead of the night, 30-29 at the 15:56 mark. Skip Jackson immediately put the 'Jacks back in front with a three-pointer, 32-30. SFA held that lead, stretching it to as many as five on two different occasions, until a 45-45 tie with 4:06 left to play.
Even after UTA tied the score at 45-45, SFA answered with a 5-0 run to push their lead back to five points, only to have the Mavericks outscore them 8-0 down the stretch.
Ben Hunt and Jasen Gast led the 'Jacks with nine points each. Hunt did not score a point in the second half, while all nine of Gast's total came in the final period of play.. Percy Green added 8-points and Skip Jackson added seven for SFA. Ransom White led the 'Jacks with five rebounds.
SFA takes the weekend off before returning to play at Southwest Texas, next Thurdsay.
