NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will continue its longest home stand of the season Saturday when it takes on Paul Quinn in a 7 p.m. game at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The `Jacks (5-2) will be looking for their third straight victory and fourth straight home win. The Tigers come into the contest winless on the season.
LAST GAME: SFA put together perhaps its most complete performance of the season, defeating Centenary, 94-57. The game marked the biggest offensive output for a Lumberjack team since SFA scored 106 points against Concordia-Austin last November. It was also the second consecutive game the `Jacks held their opponent under 60 points. Freshman guard Josh Alexander was a big part of both the offensive and defensive efforts. The Shreveport, La. native scored a career-high 18 points and led the team with six steals. Four other SFA players joined Alexander in double figures.
VS. PAUL QUINN: The Lumberjacks are 2-0 all-time against Paul Quinn. The teams last met in 1975, when SFA recorded a 123-95 win. SFA's first game against Tigers was one for the record books. In December of 1972, the `Jacks defeated Paul Quinn, 150-88. The score still stands as the school record for points in a game and ranks second on the list of largest margins of victory.
THE TIGERS: Paul Quinn comes into Saturday's contest still looking for its first win of the season. The Tigers have opened the year in an 0-9 slump. Paul Quinn opponents have scored an average of 102.7 points per game,
THE COACHES: Danny Kaspar is in his sixth season as head coach of the Lumberjacks. Including a nine-year stint as head coach at Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Kaspar is 300-118 (.718) over his 14-year coaching career. Kaspar has guided the Lumberjacks to an 81-66 (.551) mark during his tenure. Timothy Bellmon coaches the Tigers.
UP NEXT: SFA will wrap up its home stand on Tuesday, Dec. 20 with a 7 p.m. game against Texas-Pan American. The Lumberjacks will not play another game until their road date with North Texas on Dec. 30. That game is scheduled to tip off at 7 p.m. in Denton.
