NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Road trips to venues in the Big 12 Conference, Sun Belt Conference and Conference-USA, as well as an appearance in the ESPN Bracket Busters Tournament highlight the non-conference portion of the 2005-06 Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball schedule, released by school officials on Thursday.
Following a home exhibition against Texas A&M-Commerce on Nov. 10, the Lumberjacks open their season Nov. 19 with a trip to Tulsa, Okla. to take on Conference-USA's Tulsa Golden Hurricane. SFA will follow that trip up with a road game against Kansas State, of the Big 12, in Manhattan, Kan.
The Lumberjacks' home opener is scheduled for Nov. 29, when SFA welcomes Houston Baptist to the William R. Johnson Coliseum for a 7 p.m. tip. Then it's back to the road for a game against Jackson State in Jackson, Mississippi, before the 'Jacks return home to open their longest home stand of the season. SFA kicks off the four-game stint on Dec. 5 with a 7 p.m. game against Alcorn State. Home match-ups with Centenary, Paul Quinn and Texas-Pan American will follow.
SFA will cap off the 2005 year with a Dec. 30 road trip to Denton, Texas, for a game against North Texas, a Sun Belt Conference school.
The Lumberjacks will begin a new year -- and a new Southland Conference season -- on Jan. 5, when they travel to Thibodaux, La., to take on Nicholls State. That game is followed on Jan. 7 by a contest against Southeastern Louisiana, in Hammond, La.
SFA's home SLC opener is set for Jan. 12 against Lamar. The Lumberjacks follow that game up by hosting McNeese State. SFA will wrap up the month of January by sandwiching road trips to Texas State and Lamar around home games against Texas-San Antonio and Texas-Arlington.
The Lumberjacks open February with a Feb. 4 home game against rival Northwestern State. SFA will then travel to Monroe, La. for a date with Louisiana-Monroe, followed by a home game against Nicholls State and a road contest at McNeese in Lake Charles, La.
On Feb. 18, SFA will participate in the ESPN Bracket Busters Tournament. The event features nearly 100 mid-major teams from across the country. The Lumberjacks will play a road game, although the site and opponent for their match-up is not yet known.
SFA will close out the month of February with a road game against Texas-San Antonio and a home date with Texas State.
The Lumberjacks host ULM on March 1 before wrapping up the regular season with a road game against rival Sam Houston State in Huntsville, Texas on March 4.
