SHREVEPORT, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team moved from sixth place into a fifth-place tie with McNeese State on the final day of the Centenary Collge Hal Sutton Intercollegiate, Tuesday. In the third round, the Lumberjacks shot 301 as a team - six strokes worse than their Round 2 total - but still managed to make up two strokes on the Cowboys to earn the tie. The fifth-place finish in the tournament's 13-team field is the best showing for SFA this year.
Seniors Brian Grossman and Jason Landry tied for the team lead, finishing 13th in the individual standings at four-over par. Grossman carded a 75 in the final round, while Landry shot 74. Freshman Josh Irving shot a 74 on the last day to finish in 20th place at six-over 222, and junior James Winkley tied for 29th after he carded a third-round 78 to finish at nine-over 225 for the tournament. Senior Josh Price also shot a 78 in the final round. He turned in a three-round total of 236.
The Lumberjacks will next be in action on April 17 and 18 at the Southland Conference Championships. The tournament will be held in Humble, Texas.
