
SFA Golf Seventh at SLC Championships

KERRVILLE, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team opened up the first day of competition at the Southland Conference Golf Championships with a 27-over 315 Monday afternoon at the Comanche Trace Golf Course. The Lumberjacks enter the second day of competition seventh overall. Lamar is one of three schools that shot a sub-300 first round to lead the competition. The Cardinals shot an opening-round 284.
Sophomore Josh Irving leads SFA after the first day of competition. Irving shot an opening-round six-over par 78 and is currently tied for 24th. Freshman Matt Oates is tied with Irving after his opening round 78.
Freshman Richard Wilkenfeld is only one stroke back of Irving and Oates after his first-round 79. Senior James Winkley and junior Chad Spencer are currently tied for 32nd overall after shooting an opening round 80.
The Lumberjacks return for the second round of the SLC Championships Tuesday morning.
