
SFA Picks Up Win Over Northwestern State At Ladyjack Invitational

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team ran its winning streak to three on Friday by picking up a 3-0 (30-28, 30-11, 30-8) win over Northwestern State in the opening round of the Ladyjack Invitational.
The win marks the 30th win over Northwestern State for SFA under head coach Debbie Humphreys. The Ladyjacks have never lost to the Lady Demons under Humphreys.
SFA(4-4, 0-0) had to work for the win in game one as the Lady Demons' (1-4, 0-0) Yelena Enwere knocked home seven kills to keep things close, but the Ladyjacks hit .441 and .485 in the final two games to notch their first sweep of the season.
Humphreys watched as her Ladyjacks had six players pick up at least seven kills, and another six pick up at least three blocks. Overall the Ladyjacks would total 14 team blocks on the night, paced by Traci Rohde's seven.
Shelly Swendig hit .417 on the night, leading the offense with eleven kills. JJ Jones again showed her versatility, just missing out on her second triple-double in three matches as she finished with 29 assists, 10 digs and nine kills.
The Lady Demons were paced by Enwere, who finished with a dozen kills on the night. Setter Megan Dockery also dished out 26 assists.
SFA will continue with the Ladyjack Invitational on Saturday with a pair of matches, first at 10:00 a.m. against Louisiana-Monroe. The Ladyjacks will then host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in the finale of the tournament at 7:00.
The team will be holding its second annual Dorm Challenge for the Tulsa match, with the dorm bring out the highest percentage of students being given free t-shirts at halftime of the match.
In other results from the Ladyjack Invitational, Tulsa knocked off Louisiana-Mornoe 3-0.
Play will resume at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with Tulsa versus Northwestern State, followed by Louisiana-Monroe and the Ladyjacks at 12:30.
At 4:30 the Warhawks and Lady Demons will square off before Tulsa and SFA at 7:00 p.m.
