
Lumberjack Golf Finishes Fourth

SPRINGFIELD, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team shot a 296 Wednesday afternoon in the final round of the Southland Conference Championships from Carter Plantation in Springfield, La. The 'Jacks' carded a 297-294-296 - 887 to finish only a stroke out of third place.
Junior Kyle Robbins was the team's most consistent player of the week finishing with a one-over par 217. He fired rounds of 73-72-72 to finish tied for fourth overall. Freshman Mitchell McLeroy recorded his best round of the week shooting even par in the final round. He finished the tournament tied for 12th overall with a score of 77-73-72 - 222.
Junior Michael Smith jumped out to a strong start on the day playing one under heading to the sixth tee, but dropped to five over par to start the back nine. Smith was able to card a birdie on the 14th green and finish tied for 23rd overall with a four-over 76. Sophomore Stetson McMillan also recorded a four-over 76 Wednesday to finish tied for 23rd. Freshman Austin Green closed out his rookie campaign with a tough back nine. After shooting a two-under par on the front nine, Green struggled down the stretch with a bogey and three double bogeys in the final seven holes. He finished the tournament tied for 36th overall with a 230.
