BRANSON, Mo. - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack golf team won a sudden death playoff Tuesday afternoon to overcome a six-stroke deficit to win the Branson Creek Invitational. The Lumberjacks entered the day fourth overall, but fired the best round of the day to record the win (298-294-298 - 890). Freshman Austin Green sunk a three-foot put to hand SFA the victory.
Freshman Mitchell McLeroy fired a team-low 69 in the final round to finish with the team's second-lowest score (79-75--69 - 223). McLeroy's score was good enough to place him tied for 11th overall with Green (74-72-77 - 223).
Junior Kyle Robbins finished tied for fifth overall shooting a four-over par, 220. Classmate Michael Smith was only five strokes back of Robbins with a 74-76-75 - 225 to finish 19th overall. Sophomore Jordan Wynn carded a 232 to finish tied for 32nd overall.
The Lumberjacks return to action Monday to compete in the ASU Red Wolf Classic in Jonesboro, Ark. It will be the team's final tune-up before the Southland Conference Championships in Hammond, La.
