SFA Tennis Goes Undefeated in Season Opener

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Women's Tennis team opened their season Friday with the SFA Invitational where they went undefeated. The home opener consisted of SFA, McNeese State, Tarleton State, Abilene Christian, and Collin College.
The women had a solid start in singles play having all players win all three of their matches. Senior Alina Shazhko recorded all wins for SFA winning all three of her matches today. Shazhko will meet Freshman Tereza Bekerova, who won her three matches in straight sets, in the finals tomorrow. Freshman newcomers Elena Kordolaimi and Malena Gordo both won their matches in solid straight sets to meet each other for a face off in the finals tomorrow.
After going undefeated in singles play, the SFA women went on to keep their undefeated play in doubles. Bekerova and Gordo showed no mercy winning 8-3 over Abilene Christain, while Shazhko and freshman teammate Laura Servise won in a close tie breaker 9-8 (10-4) against Tarleton.
The women will continue play tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. in hopes of continuing their undefeated tournament.
