NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Junior golfer Mitchell McLeroy will open competition at the NCAA Regional Golf Championships Thursday at the Jimmy Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla. He is one of five individuals who will compete at the regional, in addition to the teams that have qualified.
A two-time All-Southland Conference selection, McLeroy played his best golf of the season down the stretch. He finished the year with eight top-10 finishes, including four top-five performances in the final five tournaments of the season. He carded a one-over par 217 to finish second overall, only one stroke off the leader at the UALR/First Tee Intercollegiate, and followed that up with a tournament title at the Jim West Intercollegiate by firing a nine-under par 207.
He wrapped up the 2011-12 regular season by earning first-team all-conference honors. McLeroy finished tied for seventh at the SLC Championships to record all-conference honors for a second-consecutive season.
