Lumberjacks Open Fall Season in Houston

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's golf team fired a 283 in the opening round of the HBU Woodforest Invitational Monday morning. The Lumberjacks closed the day with a second round 295 to finish tied for fifth place at 578.
SFA was led by junior Blake Pugh who fired the team's low rounds of the day, finishing (T-10) with a one-under par 141. Pugh will enter the final day looking to post a low round and crack the top-five.
Junior Bradley Phelps (T-21) fired a two-over 144 in his opening rounds for the Lumberjacks. Junior Austin DeWitt is two strokes of Phelps' pace. DeWitt is currently T-30 with scores of 72 and 74 on the day.
Redshirt freshman Baxter Ward finished with a six-over 148 during his opening rounds as a Lumberjack. Sophomore Major Monzingo matched Ward's pace with back-to-back 74's to also finish T-43.
The Lumberjacks return to action Tuesday morning looking to continue upon their strong start in Houston.
