LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Freshman Angelo Leyvani continued his impressive month, shooting a 2-over 146 to sit tied for fifth among the individual standings at the 2016 Arkansas-Little Rock First Tee Classic. Leyvani’s effort helped pace SFA to a seventh-place showing, shooting a 28-over 604 through the opening two rounds.
One week after registering a runner-up showing at the Bob Sitton Invitational, Leyvani continued to impress, opening the day with a 2-over 74 before an even-par 72 in round two, sitting four shots back of the individual leader after 36 holes.
Leyvani holds a one shot edge on senior teammate Luke Sheehan, who opened the day with a 1-under 71. Sheehan then posted a 4-over 76 to register a 3-over 147, sitting tied for eighth overall and giving the Lumberjacks a pair of golfers among the individual top-10. For Sheehan, the 1-under 71 in round one was the 34th par-or-better round of his career, moving him into sole possession of third-place all-time in program history.
Senior Nathan Weant shot a 10-over 154 and is tied for 46th overall while sitting third among the SFA scorecard. Junior Nick Maynard posted a 15-over 159, recovering from a rough first round 85 to shoot a 2-over 74 in round two, with junior Cory Brown carding a 16-over 160.
SFA opened the day with an 18-over 306 through the opening 18 holes and was tied for ninth before recovering to shave eight strokes off its total as the Lumberjacks posted a 10-over 298 in round two. The effort leaves SFA three shots better than both Abilene Christian and Louisiana-Monroe, who are tied for eighth with a 31-over 607 and two shots back of sixth-place Arkansas State (26-over 602) heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Lipscomb holds the team lead with a 13-over 589, six shots better than Southland Conference foe Central Arkansas (19-over 595). UT-Martin (20-over 596) is third with host Arkansas-Little Rock (22-over 598) and Eastern Michigan (25-over 601) rounding out the top-five as SFA is just three shots back from the top-five.
