Dickson Adds Three to Ladyjack Softball’s 2018 Roster

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Head Coach Nicole Dickson signs three more student-athletes to her 2018 roster. Two athletes are transfers from Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona, while the other signee is closer to home from Cy-Falls High School in Houston, Texas.
Courtney Brown • Outfielder • Sophomore Transfer from Pima Community College
Brown is the lead-off hitter for the Aztecs with a .426 batting average. In her two years at Pima, Brown tallied nine home runs and 93 RBI off 163 hits. She has stolen over 48 bases, recorded eight triples, and 136 runs. The native of Tucson, Ariz. has a .972 fielding percentage from the outfield with 95 career put-outs. The sophomore was selected to the NFCA NJCAA Division II All-American Second Team and the All-ACCAC Region I First Team. She boasted a 3.8 GPA at Pima CC and hopes to continue her degree in Nutrition and Food Science.
Coach Dickson on Brown: “Brown is an outfielder who hits leadoff for Pima. She's a triple threat from the left side and will add speed to our lineup. Brown is competitive and self-motivated. I expect her to be one of our hardest workers.”
Margarita Corona • Infielder • Sophomore Transfer from Pima Community College
Corona is a dynamic hitter, leading the Aztecs with a .487 batting average. The Tucson, Ariz. native as registered over 26 career home runs and 147 RBI during her 349 appearances at the plate. From Corona’s 155 hits, she has tallied 89 singles, 37 doubles, and three triples. From her defensive position behind the plate, Corona holds 278 put-outs from a .936 fielding percentage. The sophomore has also tabbed a NFCA NJCAA Division II All-American Second Team selection, as well as All-ACCAC/All-Region Second Team nomination. Corona will be continuing her pursuit of a Psychology degree here at SFA.
Coach Dickson on Corona: “Corona is a catcher and corner. She is an impact type kid offensively for our program. She can hit for power and average and is a high character student-athlete.”
Bryana Novegil • Infielder • Cy-Falls High School
Novegil boasts a .493 batting average from her varsity years at Cy-Falls. She has collected 56 RBI and 97 runs off 134 hits. The senior infielder currently hits a .712 on-base percentage and a .853 slugging percentage. Novegil is a four-time All-District First Team and All-District Academic nominee, as well as selected as the Most Valuable Player her sophomore year. The Houston native is pursuing a degree in communications to become a sports broadcaster.
Coach Dickson on Novegil: “Novegil is a middle infielder who will add speed and athleticism to our lineup. She swings and slaps from the left side and can play both second and shortstop. She has great energy on the field and will be a great teammate as well.”
SFA Softball has three conference series left in the 2017 season before the Southland Conference Championship in May. First up will be the Incarnate Word Cardinals, which SFA will host in Nacogdoches on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22. First pitch of the doubleheader will be at 3:00 p.m.
