
SFA Cross Country Places Four on Southland Conference All-Academic Teams

Three SFA runners earn first All-Academic honor of career
Full Southland Conference All-Academic Release
FRISCO, Texas – Four members of the SFA cross country team were named to the Southland Conference All-Academic Teams in a release from the conference office on Wednesday afternoon. Taryn Surratt, Titus Kiplagat and Claire Crone were each tabbed as First Team honorees, while Kelsey Ramirez received Second Team honors. SFA tied for the conference lead with McNeese and Lamar with four All-Academic selections among the 20 athletes selected.
Surratt earns her second All-Academic team honor in as many seasons, although Wednesday's release marks her premier First Team appearance after a place on the Second Team last fall. The Webster, Texas native had another strong fall in leading the Ladyjacks, capped off by a fifth place finish at the 2018 Southland Conference Cross Country Championship meet in Lake Charles, La. Surratt is a music major with a 4.00 GPA and is a four-time Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll selection.
Crone is a native of Cedar Park, Texas, who makes her first appearance on the Southland Conference All-Academic teams with a First Team selection. Crone is a four-time Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll selection as well, and has maintained a 4.00 GPA as a mathematics major. Her fall season saw her run to a ninth place finish at the Southland Conference championship meet, earning her a SLC All-Conference Second Team selection.
Kiplagat rounds out the third and final First Team selection for SFA. The redshirt freshman from Eldoret, Kenya had a strong first season for the Lumberjacks this fall, capped off with a fourth-place finish overall at the SLC championship meet in Lake Charles. Earning his first All-Conference First Team selection due to that performance, Kiplagat's selection to the All-Academic Team is also the first of his burgeoning career. Kiplagat was named to the 2017 Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll in the fall.
Ramirez earns a spot on the Second Team for her first Southland Conference All-Academic plaudit. The La Porte, Texas native carries a 4.00 GPA in Kinesiology and made great strides in the fall, capped off by an 11thplace finish at the Southland Conference championship meet. A two-time Southland Commissioner's Honor Roll selection last season, Ramirez gives SFA four overall selections on the All-Academic Teams.
