SFA’s Ramirez Earns Southland Conference Women’s Athlete of the Week Honors

Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Release

FRISCO, Texas – Stephen F. Austin's Kelsey Ramirez was tabbed as the Southland Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Monday, following her strong personal best performance on Friday. The distance runner from La Porte, Texas is no stranger to Southland Conference plaudits on the track, but earns her first cross country weekly award with Monday's release.

Ramirez paced the Ladyjack contingent at the Joe Piane Notre Dame Invitational on Friday, placing 11^thout of a field of nearly 200 runners. Her time of 17:23.71 in the 5K was a new personal best for her, and helped SFA to a 14^thplace team finish out of 25 teams.

Southland weekly award winners are nominated and voted upon by each school's sports information director. Voting for one's own athletes is not permitted. To earn honorable mention, a student-athlete must appear on 25 percent of ballots.
