Sierra McCluer Records 10th Shutout as SFA Punches Ticket to SLC Championship
BEAUMONT, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women's soccer advanced to the SLC Soccer Championship after defeating No. 6 Lamar in a 2-0 semifinal victory.
Alex Bayouth tallied the first goal for SFA in the 64th minute after timing up a pass off Taylor Dodson, giving SFA the 1-0 lead. After an intense second half as the Cardinals were trying to scratch back to even the match, Kamrynn Davis was able to get behind a breakaway ball to go head-to-head against the Cardinals Keeper. Davis was able to dribble a shot in the 89th minute to tally the second goal for SFA, securing the 2-0 victory.
The Lamar Cardinals rattled off 13 shots, led by Kam Jalayer with four shots, as the Cardinals recorded five shots on goal. The Cardinals were held scoreless this match, being one of six shutouts against Lamar on the season. Junior keeper Maddie Rich led most of the way for the Cardinals, playing 82 minutes, allowing the go-ahead goal for SFA, and recording five saves.
The Lumberjacks found the win column after posting 15 shots, with two goals and seven shots on net. Alex Bayouth and Kamrynn Davis highlighted the scoresheet with their heroic efforts in the semifinal matchup, with SFA having 12 different shot-takers. Sydney Williams and Sawyer Kohutek recorded a full 90 minutes on the pitch, holding Lamar's offense scoreless. Sierra McCluer allowed zero goals and pulled in five saves.
SFA now marks their spot in the SLC Championship match against No. 5 HCU. The match is scheduled for 1:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 9, in Beaumont, Texas.
