
SFA Secures 20th Win of the Season as the ‘Jacks Cruised Past Islanders

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team (20-5, 10-4 SLC) finished off their three-game home stand against the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders (11-13, 3-10 SLC).
Both defenses stood tall as the game was tied at four with 5:53 left. The SFA offense caught fire as they went on a 9-2 run, 13-6 with 1:35 left in the first quarter. The 'Jacks ended the first quarter on a three from Harmanie Dominguez as SFA doubled up on TAMUCC, 16-8 at the end of the first quarter.
Corpus started out the second quarter on a 5-2 run that cut the deficit down to five, 18-13 with 7:42 left. Back-to-back three-pointers from Faith Blackstone and Key Roseby grew the 'Jacks lead to 11, 24-13 with 6:19 left in the first half. Both teams traded blows for the next three minutes until TAMUCC went on a 9-0 run to bring the lead down to three, 28-25. SFA responded with a 5-1 run and headed to the locker room with a 33-26 lead.
Both teams traded baskets for a majority of the third quarter as neither team scored more than four points in a row until the 'Jacks went on a 6-0 run that included three free throws from Trinity Moore and a three-pointer from Blackstone, 57-40. The Islanders responded with a 5-0 spurt to end the third quarter and cut the lead down to 57-45.
Roseby started off the fourth quarter with a three-pointer to bring the SFA lead up to 15, 60-45. Both teams continued to trade blows the rest of the quarter, but SFA put the game on ice with a three-pointer from Dominguez and a layup from Ashlyn Traylor-Walker to secure the 20th sin of the season for the ninth season in a row, 74-56.
