The 2013-14 edition of the defending Southland Conference champion Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack basketball team will have a much different look and feel than last season. Former South Carolina assistant Brad Underwood begins a new era of SFA basketball in his first full season as a head coach after taking over for Danny Kaspar, who departed for Texas State in April.
Underwood became the 11th head coach in SFA's men's basketball history on Aug. 23, 2013. The former associate head coach at South Carolina and Kansas State, under current head Gamecock coach Frank Martin, begins his first season at the helm in Nacogdoches when the 2013-14 season opens in November.
Underwood inherits a 2012-13 squad that set a school record in wins in a 27-5 campaign and captured their third Southland Conference championship in program history and made it¹s third appearance in the National Invitational Tournament. The Jacks return six lettermen from last year's championship team, including honorable mention All-Southland conference senior shooting guard Desmond Haymon.
