    SFA Track & Field Sets Tryout Date

    Track and field team to hold tryouts Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012

    Former Lumberjack Track and Field athlete Brian Wall, is in his third year as an assistant with the SFA men's and women's track and field team. Wall is currently working with the sprinters and middle distant squads.

    During his time as a Lumberjack athlete, Wall was one of the Southland Conference's top 800 meter runners. In 2009, he recorded a 7th place finish in the 800 meters, he followed that up by earning All-Southland Conference honors the following season. Wall clocked one of his best career performances during his senior season earning SLC runner-up honors.

    Wall's experience as an athlete has helped him in his coaching career helping produce some of the team's top talent. Wall `s coaching skills have been an asset to the SFA Track and Field program, having multiple athletes make it to the top. A few of them are Donavon Sammons, Amahra Edwards, and Danielle Burchett.

    Sammons was a three-time All-SLC athlete and a SLC Champion. In 2010, Sammons was a member of the 1,600-meter relay team that earned all-conference honors finishing second overall. He also was part of the team that set a school record and recorded a NCAA provisional mark and later won the conference title. Sammons was a member of the Lumberjacks' 1,600-meter relay team that earned All-SLC honors at the indoor conference meet with a recorded time of 3:19.13 to finish third overall in the event in 2009.

    Amahra Edwards was also an SLC Champion and an all-conference selection. In 2010, she helped the Ladyjacks' 1,600-meter relay team earn all-conference honors with a second place finish at the conference outdoor meet. Edwards was also part of the school's 4x400-meter outdoor regional qualifier.

    Danielle Burchett is a two-time All-Southland Conference athlete who became the league's top 800-meter runner in 2011. She was also a member of the Ladyjacks' distance medley relay team that finished third overall at the conference indoor championships earning all SLC-honors.

    Wall graduated in May of 2009 with a degree in radio/television broadcast and a double minor in sociology and African American Literature.
