    COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's track and field team posted two individual titles Saturday at the season-opening Texas A&M Invitational in College Station, Texas. The victories came in the 400-meter dash and the pole vault. Junior Cass Brown clocked a time of 47.48 to win the 400 meters, while Ross recorded a mark of 17-10.50 to take the pole vault title.

    Senior Nick McCloud just missed an individual title by the slimmest of margins in the 60-meter hurdles. The former conference freshman of the year, McCloud crossed the line with a time of 8.006 finishing second by one one-thousandth of a second. Classmate Jon Arthur also just missed an individual title finishing third with a toss of 57-3.00 in the shot put, and fourth in the weigh throw (59-0.00).

    The 'Jacks posted several top-five finishes in addition the two titles. Senior Hunter Russell recorded a time of 4:20.89 to finish third in the mile, just out-kicking classmate Adam Saloom (4:21.19). Junior Jamal Peden placed fourth in the in the long jump with a mark of 22-11.75. He posted an identical finish in the triple jump with a mark 46-0.50.

    Sophomore Ashley Gadson posted a top-five finish in the women's high jump. She cleared a height of 5-5.00 to finish fifth in the event. Senior Kelli Hermes was fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 38-9.75.

    The Ladyjacks used three sophomores and a freshman to record a top-five finish in the 1,600-meter relay. The team of DeJernal Jordan, Cierra Jefferson, Brarsheyia Simpson and Jessica Hatchett finished fourth with a time of 3:49.54. The SFA women's distance medley relay team posted a similar finish. The team of freshman Shelby Pesek, sophomore Dar'Keisha Tryon, junior Ericka Taylor and senior Lauren Smith recorded a time fo12:25.00 to finish fourth in the event.
