SFA Competes at Houston All-Comers Meet

HOUSTON, Texas - Ladyjack freshmen Stephanie Ganter and Brittainy Robertson recorded strong finishes for Stephen F. Austin in the mile run Saturday afternoon at the Houston All-Comers meet in the Bill Yeoman Fieldhouse. Ganter finished third with a time of 5:14.87, while Robertson crossed the line fourth overall (5:17.33). The duo recorded the second and third best collegiate times of the race.
In similar fashion to the women's team, junior Keith Mahipala recorded a top-five finish in the event for the SFA men. Mahipala crossed the line fifth overall with a time of 4:24.75.
The SFA distance squads also flexed its muscle in the men's and women's 3,000 meters. Freshman Mitch Ownbey won the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:40.32. Sophomore Dennis Yeats clocked a time of 8:44.77 to finish third overall in the event.
In the women's 3,000 meters sophomore Amy Shackelford recorded a time of 10:27.93 to finish third in the event. Freshman Brette Fleming-Wood was also in the field's top five with her time of 10:35.53, to finish fifth overall.
Freshman Alex Teator was the 'Jacks top finisher in the men's 400 meters. Teator recorded a time of 50.42 to finish sixth overall. Sophomore Kelia Crawford was eighth in the women's 400-meter dash, Crawford finished the race with a time of 59.01. Crawford came right back in the 200 meters with another top-10 finish. She crossed the line seventh overall with a time of 25.77.
SFA returns to action Friday when they travel to College Station, Texas, to compete in the Texas A&M Invite. The meet is a two-day event that will run through Saturday.
