Harlan Finishes Second at ISU Classic

Senior Megan Harlan recorded a second-place finish Thursday evening in the lone event to finish on the opening day of the 2012 Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa. Harlan scored 3,685 points to finish second in the pentathlon, holding off Kansas State's Richelle Farley by 14 points.

Harlan rode a strong performance in the shot put to her second-place overall finish. She posted a throw of 38-7.50 to tie for the top spot in the event. The event field consisted of athletes from the Big 10, Big 12 and Pac 12 Conferences.

The SFA men also faired well in the heptathlon. Senior Andrew Plentl scored 5,156 points to finish third overall, while freshman Cody Rhodes scored 4,492 points to finish seventh overall.

The rest of the SFA men's and women's track and field team will begin competition later today in the second day of competition from Ames.
