Arthur Sets Record, Wins two Titles at Baylor

WACO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams split their athletes between two meets Friday traveling to the Baylor Triangular in Waco, and the Victor Lopez Invitational in Houston. SFA finished the night with seven individual titles, with five of them coming at Baylor, and one school record.
Similar to his performance in the opening week of the outdoor season, reigning Southland Conference Field Athlete of the Week Jon Arthur recorded three top-five finishes and two individual titles Friday in Waco. Arthur won the hammer throw with a school-record mark of 198-1, and returned to the circle to launch of throw of 59-1.25 in the shot put. He just missed his third title of the day when he finished second in the discus with a mark of 153-5.
Classmate Nick McCloud added to the 'Jacks title haul in the 110-meter hurdles. McCloud recorded a time of 14.42 to win the event. Junior Cass Brown-Stewart picked up a win in his signature event when he recorded a time of 46.89 to finish first in the 400 meters. Melai Carter cleared a height of 5-5.00 to tie for first in the high jump to win the Ladyjacks first title of the day.
Sophomore Laurie Byrd picked up the team's first title in Houston. Byrd recorded a time of 10:54.88 to win the steeplechase by nearly three seconds. Classmate Colby McCune finished off the night with one final victory for SFA. He clocked a time of 32:24.41 to win the 10,000 meters at Rice.
The SFA men and women will return to action Saturday morning to wrap up competition in both meets.
