AUSTIN, Texas -
The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams sent several athletes to Austin, Texas to compete in the 85th Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. SFA posted two top-10 finishes, including a runner-up finish in the women's steeplechase Thursday afternoon.
Senior Randi Plentl clocked a time of 10:57.78 to finish second overall in the steeplechase. The SFA distance squad also had a strong showing in the men's steeplechase. Harmon McClanahan recorded a time of 9:17.91 to finish ninth overall. Teammate Moses Luevano was 12th with his time of 9:30.46.
Defending Southland Conference cross country champion Lauren Smith crossed the finish line with a time of 17:40.82 in the women's 5,000 meters to finish 17th. Smith beat out teammate Laurie Byrd who recorded a time of 18:20.28.
Freshman Ashley Burris was the lone SFA sprinter to step on the track Thursday. Burris placed 16th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.78. Senior Andrew Plentl opened competition in the decathlon Wednesday morning, and had a strong finish to jump to 17th overall. Plentl finished the meet with 6,269 points.
