The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams won five individual titles and two relay titles Saturday at the McNeese State Spring Time Classic in Lake Charles, La. The Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Lake Charles May 10-12.
The first victory of the day came on the track where the team of Keisha Tryon, Cierra Jefferson, Jessica Hatchett and Brarysheyia Simpson clocked a time of 3:46.75 to win the event. Sophomore Melai Carter added an individual title in the high jump when she cleared a height of 5-5.75. Sophomore La'Tricia Griffin was the meet's top shot putter. She bested the rest of the competition by nearly 1.5 feet when she recorded a throw of 48-2.00.
SFA then turned to its strength on the track led by senior Nick McCloud. The Tyler, Texas native won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.42. The 'Jacks picked up another track title with the team of Shawn Goff, Josh Taylor, Torin Crowder and Cass Brown-Stewart clocked a time of 3:15.36 to win the 1,600-meter hurdles.
The Lumberjacks had two athletes tie for the top spot in the pole vault. Teammates Cameron Meyer and Colton Ross each cleared a height of 17-0.75 to share the event title. Senior Jon Arthur closed out the meet by recording a throw of 60-0.50 to win the men's shot put.
SFA returns to action Friday when they travel to Waco, Texas to compete in the Michael Johnson Invitational.
