The second day of the NCAA West Preliminaries was delayed by more than an hour Friday, due to lightning in the Austin area, and some of the events have been re-scheduled for Saturday morning, but the athletes were finally able to begin competition.
Similar to the indoor season, senior Jon Arthur will be headed back to the NCAA Championships. He finished third at the meet with a throw of 62-6.50 in the shot put. Junior Cass Brown-Stewart looked to become the second Lumberjack to advance to the NCAA Outdoor meet. He recorded the 13th-best time in the opening round heats of the men's 400 meters to advance to Friday's quarterfinals. Brown-Stewart clocked a time of 46.08 to finish fifth overall to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships.
Senior Nick McCloud recorded a time of 14.54 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish 33rd, but was unable to advance to the quarterfinal rounds. Senior Adam Saloom was also slated to compete Friday, but due to the weather delays the 3,000-meter steeplechase was not finished at press time.
The final day of the NCAA West Preliminaries will conclude Saturday. The first event for SFA will be the men's pole vault beginning at 1 p.m. The 'Jacks have two athletes - Cameron Meyer and Colton Ross - competing in the event.
