NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack track and field team posted two individual titles, and narrowly missed a third at the Texas A&M Invitational Saturday in College Station, Texas. The 'Jacks posted victories in the pole vault and 400-meter dash, while finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles by one one-thousandth of a second.
Junior Colton Ross cleared a height of 17-10.50 to win the pole vault nearly 10 inches. Classmate Cass Brown Stewart clocked a time of 47.48 to win the 400 meters over Baylor's Blake Heriot by four hundredths of a second.
Senior Nick McCloud posted the only sub-eight time in the preliminary rounds of the 60-meter hurdles to enter the finals as the top qualifier.
All three marks currently rank among the nation's top 20, including two in the top 10. Ross' vault currently has him ranked fourth nationally, while Brown is seventh in the country. Despite not winning the title, McCloud's 7.96 in the preliminaries is currently ranked 17th nationally.
The SFA men's and women's track and field team will have a week off before returning to action Friday, Jan. 25th at the Houston Indoor and Multis Invitational.
