Sophomore jumper Jamal Peden has been named Southland Conference male athlete of the week announced league officials Wednesday afternoon. It marks the first time in his career that the Wylie, Texas, native has received the league's weekly honor.
Peden was the catalyst for an SFA men's and women's team that jumped out to a strong start to the indoor season at the Texas A&M Indoor Invitational Saturday in College Station, Texas. He competed in the long and triple jumps recording two top-five finishes and one individual title.
Peden won the men's triple jump with a mark of 50-11.00. His mark was among the nation's top 10 for the first week of the season, and currently has him ranked tied for eighth nationally. Peden returned to the runway in the long jump where he posted a mark of 23-3.50 to finish third overall.
SFA returns to action Friday, Jan. 27th when they travel to Houston, Texas, to compete in the Houston Indoor and Multis. The two-day event will run through Saturday.
