NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Indoor conference championships are next week for track and field, and the Stephen F. Austin team has its sights set on one last tune up meet before heading back to Alabama. The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks compete in the Houston Tune Up on Friday with spots on the championship roster up for grabs.
Action begins at 11 a.m. from the Yeoman Fieldhouse with the start of the field events. Running events are slated for a 2 p.m. start.
SFA will be up against a handful of regional teams looking for one more quality showing before their conference championships as well. Host Houston’s men are ranked No. 27 in the nation entering this week, but only the Cougars’ throwers will be in action. UTSA also is competing, and Southland Conference foes Sam Houston State and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi will also be at the Houston Tune Up.
The coaching staff will be watching closely to see which athletes step up for SFA. Only 28 athletes may travel to the conference championship next week for the men and women with both teams looking to repeat as champions.
Tickets to the Houston Tune Up are $10 for the general public and $7 for youth. Fans unable to attend can follow the action online with live results provided at uhcougars.com. A link will also be provided on SFA’s schedule page at sfajacks.com.
