    NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams are making their final preparations for the 2012 Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which will be held in Norman, Okla., beginning Friday morning. The two-day meet is slated to begin at 8:30 Friday morning in the Mosier Indoor Track Facility with the opening events of the pentathlon and heptathlon. The field events will begin at 3 p.m. with the women's weight throw and men's pole vault, while the track events get under way at 4 p.m. with the preliminaries of the women's mile.

    The Ladyjacks will once again be among the favorites to win the title. SFA will be led by a stable of athletes among the favorites to win individual titles. Distance runner Lauren Smith tops the list entering the championships with the league's top time in the mile run, the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters. In addition to Smith, senior Danielle Burchett has recorded the league's top time in the 800-meter run, sophomore Chelsea Stephen has the fastest time in the 60-meter hurdles, sophomore Kirsten Knox leads the league in the long jump, senior Megan Harlan has the best mark in the pentathlon and the Ladyjacks have also recorded the league's fastest time in the 4x400-meter relay. SFA also expects a lot of production from the 400-meter dash where it has four athletes among the league's top-nine times.

    The Lumberjacks will also be led by a talented lineup in the 400-meter dash. SFA enters the meet owning four of top seven times, including Cass Brown with the top overall mark. In addition to their depth in the 400, SFA will be a strong favorite in the triple jump (Jamal Peden) and the 1,600-meter relay. The 'Jacks will also be looking for big points in the weight throw (Clint Harris), heptathlon (Andrew Plentl) and the distance medley relay where SFA is currently second in the league standings.
