20 All-SLC Honors Awarded to Track & Field

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Southland Conference announced its individual award winners and All-Conference Teams on Thursday following last week's Southland Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships. Stephen F. Austin's men's and women's teams combined to tally 20 all-conference nods after the women finished second and the men claimed third at the championship meet.
Sprinter Brarysheyia Simpson received three all-conference awards individually finishing second in three different events. She broke her own school records set earlier this season in the 60 meters and the 200. Simpson also took silver in the 400 meters and ran a leg of the 4x400 relay team that received second team all-conference honors with Keisha Tryon, Cierra Jefferson and Jessica Hatchett.
The men's pole vault swept the all-conference honors with Colton Ross, Cameron Meyer and Daven Murphree taking first, second and third team, respectively. Ross won the pole vault with his clearance of 5.30 meters (17-4.50).
SFA took both titles in the multi-events with Cody Rhodes winning the heptathlon and Shambrail Woods taking the pentathlon crown. Rhodes scored 4,943 points, and Woods tallied 3,698 points in her victory.
Jamal Davis joined Rhodes on the all-conference team earning third team honors with his finish in the heptathlon at 4,926 points.
Taylor received second team honors for his silver finish in the 400 meters. He crossed the line in 48.26 seconds.
SFA's other two second team performances came in the women's field events with Melai Carter finishing second in the high jump at 1.70 meters (5-07.00). La'Tricia Griffin also took second in the shot put with her mark of 14.96 meters (49-01.00).
Field events were a strong area for the Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks with six more third-place finishes.
Kirsten Knox took third in both the long jump and triple jump to receive third team honors, and Trey Darty took third team for the men in the long jump. Griffin also placed third in the weight throw, bringing her point total at the meet to 14 points and earning another all-conference nod. Caitlin Jones finished third in the women's high jump, and Derek Calvert earned third team recognition for his finish in the men's shot put.
The Lumberjacks and Ladyjacks are preparing for the outdoor season with the first meet set for two weeks when SFA heads to the Alabama Relays for a three-day meet.
