SFA Sends 15 Athletes to West Regional

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field teams will send 15 athletes to the 2012 NCAA Track and Field West Regional Championships announced the NCAA Thursday afternoon.
The SFA men will be sending four athletes competing five different events, and the women are sending 11 athletes in eight different events. The West Regional meet will begin Thursday, May 24, and will run through Saturday, May 26, and will take place at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas.
The Lumberjacks will be competing in three field events and two track events. Sophomore Jamal Peden is ranked sixth in the region in the long and triple jumps, while classmate Clint Harris has advanced in the discus. Sophomore Cass Brown is just outside the regional top-10 (12th) in the 400-meter dash. Junior Adam Saloom has advanced in the steeplechase, and is ranked 38th in the event.
The SFA women will be competing in five track events and three field events. The Ladyjacks will be sending its 4x100, and 4x400-meter relay teams, in addition to senior Mary Dickerson who is ranked 24th in the 400-meter dash, and runs the anchor leg of the 1,600-meter relay. Sophomore Chelsea Stephen enters the meet ranked 24th in the 100-meter hurdles, while senior Danielle Burchett is ranked 35th in the 800 meters.
The three Ladyjacks competing in the field events will be junior Kelli Hermes, sophomore Kirsten Knox and freshman Madison Johnston. Hermes is ranked 48th in the triple jump, Knox is ranked 37th in the long jump and Johnston is 43rd in the javelin.
