SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Two Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks took on the best of the best this weekend at the USA Track and Field Championships in California and came away with strong showings and valuable experience.
Josh Taylor advanced through the first round of the 400 meter hurdles on Friday with a time of 51.66 seconds to compete in Saturday’s semifinals. He then ran 52.98 seconds in the semifinal to finish in 15th place at the USATF Championship.
Long jumper Jamal Peden also was in action at the national championship meet. Peden leapt 7.57 meters (24-10.00) on his third attempt to move into and finish in 13th place.
Peden was one of eight collegiate athletes competing in the men’s long jump at USA’s this season. Taylor was among eight college runners in the 400 meter hurdles with seven advancing of them advancing to the semifinals.
