USA Junior Championships Home
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Two Lumberjacks will attempt to represent Team USA at the IAAF World Junior Championships later this summer as Anthony Gallardo and Jeffrey Weisheit run at the USA Track and Field Junior Championships in Eugene, Oregon.
Gallardo is set to compete in both the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters. Weisheit will join Gallardo in the 10k.
USA Junior Championships are for athletes ages 16-19, and with its three qualified entries SFA leads the Southland Conference. Sam Houston State and Southeastern Louisiana also will be represented at the USA Juniors this weekend.
Gallardo will run in the final event of the night on Saturday with the gun set to fire at approximately 7:37 p.m. Pacific time from Historic Hayward Field. Gallardo and Weisheit will both run at 6:45 p.m. Pacific on Sunday to close out the weekend of action.
With this year being a world championship year for juniors, spots on Team USA will be up for grabs this weekend in Eugene.
The top two finishers in each event will represent Team USA at the IAAF World Junior Championships in Eugene later this month if they have met the qualifying standard for their respective event.
Gallardo was the 2013 Southland Conference Cross Country Freshman of the Year and Weisheit finished fifth in both the 5,000 and 10,000 meters at the Southland Conference Championship outdoors. He also claimed fourth indoors in the 5,000.
