NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Now that the school year is over, and before we begin the 2013-14 academic year, SFA athletics wanted to take a look back at the Top 25 Moments from the 2012-13 season.

No. 9

It has been proven in our Top 25 Moments of 2012-13 that the Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field and cross country teams have a flair for the dramatic. If you don't believe us, just harken back to moment No. 10 on the countdown. Moment No. 9 comes from the men's indoor track and field season. The Lumberjack track and field team entered the 2013 indoor season with high expectations. One of the favorites entering the Southland Conference Indoor Championship meet, the Lumberjacks were looking for their second indoor title in program history and their first since 2005. But with only three events remaining, the 'Jacks trailed rival Sam Houston State by 12.5 points, 111.5-99, and it appeared those dreams of another title were fading.

Freshman Bryce Willard provided SFA with a glimmer of hope when shocked the field by qualifying for the finals in the high jump. The Lantana, Texas native, finished fifth in the event to pull SFA with 7.5 points of the Bearkats. Seniors Adam Saloom and Xavier Rodriguez combined to score 11 points in the men's 5,000-meter run to give the 'Jacks a slim lead, 114-111.5, with only one event remaining.

SFA was placing its hopes of a team title squarely on the shoulders of its 1,600-meter relay team, needing to stay within a place of Sam Houston State to claim the title. Fittingly, All-American Cass Brown-Stewart edged out the Bearkats at the finish line to win the relay, and lock up the team title for SFA.

The 'Jacks indoor conference title was one in a season of dominance for the SFA track and field and cross country teams. SFA finished the year winning five of a possible six conference titles, and sent athletes to the national championships in men's and women's cross country, men's indoor track and field, and men's and women's outdoor track and field. -SFA-
