Ladyjacks win 2012-13 SLC Triple Crown

July 22, 2013

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Now that the school year is over, and before we begin the 2013-14 academic year, SFA athletics wanted to take a look back at the Top 25 Moments from the 2012-13 season.

No. 7

When conversation centers on the topic of women's track and field in the Southland Conference, the majority of the conversation is dominated by the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks. The SFA women have achieved a level of success never before seen in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks have won the last five SLC titles during both the indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The run of 10-straight combined titles set a new standard in the Southland.

During the 2012-13 season, SFA took that run of success to a whole new level by winning the SLC Track and Field Triple Crown. The Ladyjack cross country team got the championship run kicked off by edging out rival Sam Houston State by two points. After pulling out a title that came down to the wire in the fall, the Ladyjacks went to opposite end of the spectrum at the conference indoor championships. The SFA women won the indoor title BY 55.5 points over the Bearkats. It was a similar story during the outdoor season as SFA posted a 37-point win at the outdoor meet to lockup their third and final title.

The Ladyjacks recorded numerous individual honors along the way. SFA finished the season with seven individual titles, and 29 all-conference performances. Senior distance runner Lauren Smith repeated as the conference female athlete of the year in cross country, while also bringing home league athlete of the year honors during the indoor season as well. Sophomore La'Tricia Griffin was named the Southland Female Indoor Outstanding Field Athlete, and junior Shambrail Woods earned league newcomer of the year honors. Freshman Chasity Clark was tabbed the conference's top rookie.

The 2012-13 season marked the second time in the past three seasons that SFA has recorded the conference's track and field triple crown. -SFA-
