SFA Track & Field Adds Two To Signing Class
Sept. 16, 2013
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The 2013 Southland Conference Men's and Women's Indoor and Outdoor champion Stephen F. Austin track and field team added two athletes to national letters of intent, announced coach of the year Phil Olson Monday morning. The incoming class consists of 18 female athletes and 13 men, and is the largest caliber of signing class to come under Olson.
SFA announced the signing of Jared Twomey (Carthage High School-hurdles) and Adrienne Lewis (DeSoto High School-thrower) to complete the 31-member 2013 signing class for the 2013-14 academic year.
"The importance of this class of student-athletes cannot be underestimated," Olson said. "This is perhaps the deepest class we have signed in my tenure as the head track and field coach at SFA. Thirty-one athletes is a tremendous number, and the talent level is very high.
"I give full credit to our coaching staff for all their hard work in bringing in a class that is representative of the high academic and strong moral character we are looking for to join our program."
Twomey, a multi-sport athlete during his prep campaign, was a two-time state qualifier in the hurdles at Carthage High School. Twomey will compete in the 400-meter dash and hurdling events for SFA.
"Jared comes from a long line of outstanding athletes from Carthage High School," assistant coach of sprints/hurdles Sean Lonergan said. "He is a multi-sport athlete, who now will be able to focus more on the intermediate hurdles and the 400-meter dash. We love East Texas kids, and he fits the mold as far as what we are looking for."
Lewis, a signee of the Ladyjack basketball team, will compete in the throwing events for SFA. Lewis was a three-time district champion. The multi-sport athlete made three trips to regionals and two state championship appearances.
"Adrienne was a two-sport star at DeSoto High School who has a real chance to be a two-sport star at SFA," Olson said. Due to the diligence of head coach Brandon Schneider and his staff in women's basketball, Adrienne will be able to fulfill her dream of competing in two sports in college. My thanks to coach Schneider for allowing her to compete in track and field following her season."
Lewis joins a Ladyjack class that includes Taylor Anderson (Frisco, Texas), Taylor Bohr (Justin, Texas), Kayla Brewer (Centerville, Texas), Macy Davis (Wellington, Texas), Chelsea Gill (Waco, Texas), Taylor Glasz (Cibolo, Texas), Shelby Gresham (Garrison, Texas), Courtney High (Vanderbilt, Texas), Janae Jackson (Mesquite, Texas), Madeline Kaufman (McAllen, Texas), Bridgette Kozar (San Antonio, Texas), Samantha Ottman (Keller, Texas), Amber Reddic (Longview, Texas), Rana Ryan (Trophy Club, Texas), Kacie Tuerck (Temple, Texas), Jaisha Washington (Mansfield, Texas) and Tasia Williams (Irving, Texas). Twomey joins Anthony Gallardo (San Antonio, Texas), Nathan Jones (Longview, Texas), Jared Love (Longview, Texas), Quinlin McGregor (Amarillo, Texas), Edwin Munoz (Kaufman, Texas), Daven Murphree (Big Sandy, Texas), Jonathan Mitchell (Weatherford, Texas), Derek Orlando (Katy, Texas), Thomas Reynolds (Harleton, Texas), Cole Stallcup (Celina, Texas), Kaleb Vasquez (San Antonio, Texas) and Sam Wallace (Cinco Ranch, Texas) in the men's class.
