SFA Track & Field Names 2008 Captains
Dec. 15, 2007
"Zach Ross and Sumbo Adeniran lead by example," said Olson. "They set a standard on our team by their work ethic, as well as, being vocal leaders. Each has come down a long road to be successful. Zach walked on to the program and earned a spot through his hard work. Sumbo was a transfer walkon, who really became one of the best jumpers in the league last season."
Both former walkons, Ross came to SFA through the high school ranks, while Adeniran transferred to SFA from Northwestern. Ross has worked hard to enter his senior season as one of the top returning hurdlers in the conference, while Adeniran made a huge splash during his first season with SFA.
Ross was one of the league's top hurdlers last season recording a fifth-place finish in the 110-meter and 400-meter hurdles during the conference outdoor championships. He was also a member of the Lumberjacks' 4x400-meter relay team that finished second at the SLC Indoor Championships.
Adeniran made an immediate impact with the Lumberjacks last season. The transfer won the SLC indoor long jump title with a mark of 24-4.25. He returned to the event to score points for SFA during the outdoor season as well.
"When we choose team captains those athletes have to be special people, and I feel these two individuals meet that criteria. Both young men are leaders for our team both on and off the field of competition."
