    Cross Country Shows Well In Houston

    HOUSTON, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin men’s and women’s cross country teams finished third and fourth Friday night in the 38th annual Justin F. Cooper Memorial Rice invitational at Rice Intramural Fields.

    The Lumberjacks finished third and the Ladyjacks finished fourth out of 14-team field.

    Senior Jonus Rodriguez (fifth) and freshman Anthony Gallardo (sixth) each recorded top-10 finishes. Rodriguez posted a time of 16:52, with Gallardo (16:57) crossing the finish line five seconds later.

    Sophomore Nick Guerra (17:13) finished 15th overall, while Colby Mehmen (17:41) and Cody Brown (17:46) finished 32nd and 36th respectively.

    On the women’s side, Laurie Byrd and Shelby Pesek led the Ladyjacks. The SFA duo finished within three seconds of each other, crossing at 15:43 and 15:46 to take 15th and 16th. Freshamn Katrina Fite (15:57) finished in the same minute, to take 23rd overall. 

    Senior Rebecca Blubaugh crossed the line at 16:04 to finish 32nd, while freshman Samantha Ottman (16:19) took 41st to round out the Ladyjack field.

    SFA will enjoy a full week off from competition, before participating the the OSU Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., Sept. 28.
