    Ladyjacks Show Strong in Oklahoma

    STILLWATER, Oklahoma - Lauren Smith and Randi Plentl both finished in the top-10 to lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack Cross Country runners to a fourth-place finish on Saturday at the 76th annual Cowboy Jamboree in Oklahoma.

    Smith, who took the individual mark her last time out, set the pace for all Ladyjack runners, taking fourth place with a time of 17:40.34 in the women’s 5,000-meter race.  The top-10 finish is her second through two meets in the young 2012 season.

    Plentl finished less than a minute behind Smith to take sixth place.  The Overton native clocked her first top-10 finish of the season with a time of 18:10.77.

    The Ladyjacks took fourth overall as a team, getting a 35th-place finish from sophomore Laurie Byrd (19:25.22) and a 37th-place finish from Junior Rebecca Blubaugh (19:28.86) to round out the top-40 in the field. Senior Danielle Burchett (19:42.07) and freshman Shelby Pesek (19:52.53) recorded respective finishes, crossing within 10 seconds of each other to take 43rd and 45th-place overall for SFA. 

    Sophomore Amanda Walters finished 63rd overall with a time of 20:45.32 to round out the Ladyjacks.

    Over on the men’s side, Xavier Rodriguez led the Lumberjacks to an eighth-place finish with a time of 25:13.90 to take 15th overall in the men’s 8,000-meter race. Senior Adam Saloom (25:42.46) and junior Jonus Rodriguez (25:57.59) finished less than a minute behind Xavier Rodriguez to take 25th and 33rd overall.

    Freshman Nick Guerra finished 60th overall with a time of 26:52.67. Meanwhile junior Moses Luevano (27:02.17) and Hunter Russell (27:03.09) took 65th and 66th-place, before sophomore Cameron Courtney (28:15.26) took 101st overall to round out the SFA lineup.

    SFA cross country next competes Oct. 13 when it travels to Fayetteville, Arkansas for the Chile Pepper Festival.
