Nov. 17, 2012
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Lauren Smith and Xavier Rodriguez each closed out their cross country careers at Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, competing at the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park.
Smith finished in 21:10.3 over the 6,000-meter course, while Rodriguez finished in a time of 30:54 over 10,000 meters against a field filled with the best runners in the nation.
"I'm very proud of the way both of them ran today," SFA cross country coach Cody Clark said. "It was the best field in the country and easily the best field either of them has been a part of while here. The race was very fast and there was never really a lot of change throughout the field over the course of the race, but still I thought both ran well."
Smith's finish was good enough for 157th out of 253 runners, while Rodriguez's time was good enough for 119th on the men's side out of a field of 245.
The trip to Louisville marked just the seventh time SFA had sent representatives to the national meet.
