NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin men’s and women’s cross country teams open up the 2013 season with the Lumberjack Opener, a triple dual meet against Houston Baptist and Sam Houston, Friday, Aug. 30, in Pecan Park.

“Starting the season at home is a great way for us to kickoff the season,” head coach Cody Clark said. “This is an opportunity for us to get a workout in before we head down to Houston for the Rice Invite Sept. 13. I look forward to seeing my runners get their volume in, as we see where we stack up against two of the schools in our conference.”

The women's race will start at 6:30 p.m., with the men's race set to begin at 7:00 p.m.

Pecan Park will serve as the host site for the event, with the different trails marked off for each gender. The women will run a loop and a half for a total of two miles, while the men will run two and one half loops for a total of 5,000 meters.

The defending Southland Conference champion Ladyjacks will have three returners back for 2013, with Becca Blubaugh, Laurie Byrd and Shelby Pesek. On the men’s side, Jonus Rodriguez highlights a squad that returns four runners from 2012.

Both teams will have a lot of new faces entering 2013. The women have 11 newcomers, with 10 from the high school ranks and one transfer, while the men welcome seven freshmen to the group.
