Cross Country Set for SLC Championships

FRISCO, Texas –The Stephen F. Austin men’s and women’s cross-country teams will head Lake Charles, La., Friday for the 2013 Southland Conference Cross Country Championships at the Ward 3 Rec Complex. The women’s 6-kilometer race will begin at 8:30 a.m., followed by the men’s 8-kilometer race at 9:30 a.m.
The Ladyjacks hope to claim their second consecutive title and third in the last four years, while the Lumberjacks will try to prevent the McNeese State men’s team from repeating as conference champions on their home course.
On the women’s side, Stephen F. Austin seeks back-to-back titles for the first time since winning two consecutive titles in 2002-03. The Ladyjacks have won two of the last three conference championships and return three runners including junior Laurie Byrd, who placed 13th at last year’s championships with a time of 22:16.1.
Stephen F. Austin leads the women’s teams with seven championships followed by A&M-Corpus Christi with four and Lamar with three titles.
