The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks' overall record dropped to 3-8 on the year after a 17-7 loss against the Prairie View A&M Panthers Wednesday night in Prairie View.
Although SFA scored first when Kevin Crabtree crossed the plate on a Jeremy Arterburn single in the second inning, the Panthers answered with a five-run bottom half of the inning to take a 5-1 lead. The Lumberjacks added two more runs in each the fifth and sixth innings before Noel Trevino hit his first home run of the season, a two-run blast to left field to add the final two runs to SFA's run total. The Panthers got the bulk of their runs in the fifth inning when they scored nine runs.
Trevino finished the night with two hits, two RBI, and a run scored. Arterburn also had two hits in the outing and drove in three runs. Jeff Brewer also collected two hits and scored two runs. Ryan Sinclair who went to the plate twice reached on an error and was hit by a pitch and scored both times.
The Lumberjacks return to the field Friday at 2 p.m. against the Youngstown State Penguins at Jaycees Field in the first of a three-game series. Saturday's and Sunday's games will begin at 1 p.m.
