TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team was held to three hits in an 8-0 loss to No. 21/27 Alabama on Saturday afternoon at Sewell-Thomas Stadium.
Seniors Ricardo Sanchez, Brett Thornell and Gevon Jackson, each collected a hit for SFA (3-3) in the loss.
Senior Kyle Cross took his second of the season, allowing five runs (four earned) in five innings pitched. Relievers Fabian Arcizo, Chris Hassold and Josh Keith, each allowed one run in one inning of work across the final three innings.
After a scoreless frame from both team to open the afternoon, Alabama (3-2) freshman Casey Hughston homered to right field to open the bottom of the second inning.
The Crimson Tide added seven runs the rest of the way, as junior Justin Kamplain (1-0) and to other Alabama pitchers kept the ‘Jacks at bay.
SFA will look to bounce back and take the series on Sunday, Feb. 23, sending junior Dillon Mangham to the mound verse the Tide's Ray Castillo.
