EDINBURG, Texas -
The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks gave up an 11-6 win to the Illinois Illini Sunday morning in the final day of the Al Ogletree Classic in Edinburg, Texas. Jared Pitts hit his fifth home run of the year and was one of three Lumberjacks to collect two hits in the game. SFA falls to 7-10 on the year and the Illini are 2-4.
Illinois took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but Pitts tied the score with his two run shot in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Lumberjacks scored a run in each the sixth and seventh innings to take a 4-2 lead. SFA put two more runs on the board in the eighth, but it wasn't enough as the Illini put up at least one run in each of the last four innings to tally an 11-6 win.
SFA starter Jared Schrom pitched 5.2 innings, giving up seven hits and three runs, including one earned. He struck out three and walked three. Heath Konescheck, who relieved Schrom, pitched 0.2 innings and gave up three runs on three hits. Konescheck suffered the loss and fell to 0-2 on the season.
In addition to Pitts, Justin Long and Noel Trevino each collected two hits. The hits added a 10th game to Trevino's hit streak, the longest for a Lumberjack this season.
The Lumberjacks return to Jaycees Field next weekend to face the Texas-Pan American Broncs. The three-game set begins Friday with a 2 p.m. first pitch, followed by 1 p.m. games Saturday and Sunday.
