The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team surrendered eight unearned runs Tuesday afternoon to lose to Dallas Baptist, 15-5. The 'Jacks are now 4-17 (.190) on the season.
The Patriots scored six runs in the first three innings and pushed their lead to 11-0 heading into the eighth inning before SFA cracked the scoreboard. With two on and two out, freshman Jared Schrom came on to pinch-hit for Gabriel Garcia-Serrano. Schrom lined the ball down the left field line for a double to score Zach Gardner and Hunter Bell. The `Jacks then loaded the bases for junior Steven Hill, who cleared the bases with a three-run double.
SFA cut the Patriots' lead to 11-6 in the eighth, but it was unable to get any closer. Dallas Baptist closed out the scoring by tacking on four more runs in the top of the ninth.
Bell and junior Kyle Freeman each finished the day with two hits. Schrom went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored and two RBI.
The Lumberjacks return to Southland Conference action Friday when they host Nicholls State. The three-game series will begin Friday at 2 p.m. from Jaycees Field.
