HAMMOND, La. – Jarid Scarafiotti belted a game-winning two-run homerun in the top of the tenth inning to lift the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack baseball team 5-3 over the Southeastern Louisiana Lions in extra innings Saturday afternoon at Pat Kenelly Diamond at Alumni Field.

Alex Moshier (4-0) picked up the win in relief tossing the final three innings.  The Nederland native allowed two unearned runs off of five hits, with three walks and five strikeouts in the outing.

SFA (19-27, 12-14 SLC) was lead at the plate with a three-for-four performance from Bobby Loveless.  The Friendswood native was the only Lumberjack with a three-hit performance with three singles.  The ‘Jacks had four multi-hit performances in all with Scarafiotti, Hunter Dozier and Ricardo Sanchez each finishing with two hits apiece.  Scarafiotti finished two-for-five with a single and the game-winning two-run homerun.

SLU (32-16, 16-10 SLC) after sitting the ‘Jacks down in order to open the game, struck first taking advantage of two SFA errors and a RBI single from Brock Hebert to take a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the frame. Harry Slade after reaching on a dropped fly from Freddy Villalobos advanced to second on a failed pick off attempt from Cameron Gann.  The Baltimore native would move up a bag one batter later on a sac bunt from Ben Hernandez before coming in on Hebert’s single into right field.

The unearned run would be the only run allowed by Gann on the day. The Crandall native allowed seven hits with two walks and two strikeouts across five and one-third innings pitched to take a no decision.

After a silent second inning from either team, the ‘Jacks would push one across in the top of the third to tie the game up.  Following a leadoff double from Sanchez into center field, SFA utilized small ball tactics, with a sac bunt from Bryce Cummings and grounder to second base from Rory Myers, to get SFA on the board.

With the score tied 1-1 going into the bottom of the eighth, an RBI double from Villalobos would give SFA its first lead of the series. Following a single to left field from Myers and walk to Rene’ Moreda that put two runners on with one out, Villalobos doubled down the left field line to put the ‘Jacks on top.

After a shaky eighth that saw the Lions stand two off of Moshier, SLU pushed across two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings.  Moshier, three outs away from his eighth save of the season, walked Michael Rutland to open the frame.  After back-to-back singles from Alex Marse and Slade loaded the bases with no outs, a fielder’s choice and fielding error from Max Lamantia brought the Lions within one.  SFA was however able to minimize the damage on the play as Rutland was out at home on the throw from Cummings.   Following an intentional walk to Hebert to load the bases, Jonathan Base brought in Slade with a sac fly to center field to tie the game.  Moshier would get out of it one batter later, fanning Britt Gautreaux on three pitches.

SFA retook the lead in the top of the tenth with a two-run homerun from Scafafiotti, that lifted the ‘Jacks 5-3 over the Lions. The homer scored Dozier who doubled to left field in the previous at bat.

Moshier would silence SLU in the bottom of the frame striking out the side to end the game.

SFA will look to take the series Sunday afternoon when the pit Colton Eubanks against Buck Bernard for the final conference series road game for the ‘Jacks.  First pitched is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
